Virat Kohli meets Miss World Manushi Chhillar in an Award Show

Virat Kohli meets Miss World Manushi Chhillar in an Award Show

Manushi was awarded the Special Achievement honor by Kohli, while Kohli himself won the Popular Choice for Indian of the Year award.

Miss World Manushi Chhillar asked:

“You are one of the best batsman in the world today and you’ve been such an inspiration. You’ve really given back to the society. But there are a lot of young people who draw inspiration from you. How would you like to give back for children, especially in the world of cricket?”

Virat Kohli  replied:

“Well, what’s very important to understand is when you do what you do and you express yourself on the field, it has to be genuine and it has to be from the heart. Otherwise if people find out that you’re trying to pretend, then they can never connect to you. I’ve never tried to be anyone else. I’ve always been myself; I always mention that people had a lot of issues with how I was, how I conducted myself, but I had never had any problems with that.”

“We must believe that everyone has a plan and that plan has been executed for them at the time they are in, and all they can do is work hard, no one can change the plan, what we can do is work hard and be honest with ourselves.”

He also said:

“For me the joy of life is just watching that ball and hitting it from the middle of the bat”.

Mumbai is Recovering – A Day After Heavy Rain

The India Meteorological Department and the Union Water Ministry have also issued an advisory on “very heavy rainfall” over the next three days in parts of 12 states, including Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. The rain on Tuesday, 30 times the average, had brought Mumbai to standstill on Tuesday with water flooding low lying areas. Thousands waded through waist-deep water, abandoning cars to walk.

Mumbai is  returning slowly back to normal a day after heavy rain battered the city. The rainfall recorded in Mumbai yesterday is said to be the heaviest in 12 years, recording almost 300 millimeters in some locations.

Today, several roads have been cleared for traffic and water has receded from some public areas. Local trains are also running, though most of them are behind schedule.

Mumbai’s famous dabbawalas, who deliver lunch to offices, won’t operate today. The weather office has, however, forecast more rain in Mumbai today.

Trees and the Enlightenment of Gautama Buddha

How did Gautama Buddha reach Enlightenment? What was the obstacles? These are the eternal questions for every person on earth. The story of the Buddha’s enlightenment is fascinating subject for modern research.

Buddha got his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, located about 115 km south of Patna, in the modern Indian state of Bihar. By finding the path to Enlightenment, Siddhartha was led from the pain of suffering and rebirth towards the path of Enlightenment and became known as the Buddha or ‘awakened one’.

Siddhartha, was his earlier name, which means “the one who brings all good.”

Siddhartha practised meditation but concluded that in themselves, the highest meditative states were not enough. He the life of extreme asceticism for six years, but this did not satisfy him either; he still had not escaped from the world of suffering.

He abandoned the strict lifestyle of self-denial and ascetism, but did not return to the pampered luxury of his early life. Instead, he pursued the Middle Way, which is just what it sounds like; neither luxury nor poverty.

One day,  Siddhartha Gautama sat beneath a sacred fig (Ficus religiosa) and began to meditate. He sat down and vowed, come what may, he would not move until he found an end to sorrow.

Siddhartha became deeply absorbed in meditation, and reflected on his experience of life, determined to penetrate its truth.

When his mind was purified by concentration, he acquired the Three Knowledge. The first knowledge was that of his past lives and the past lives of all beings. The second knowledge was of the laws of karma. The third knowledge was that he was free of all obstacles and released from attachments.

Buddhist legends say that Mara wished to stop Siddhartha’s quest for enlightenment, so he brought his most beautiful daughters to Bodh Gaya to seduce him. But Siddhartha did not move. Then Mara sent armies of demons to attack him. Siddhartha sat still, and untouched.

Then, Mara claimed that the seat of enlightenment rightfully belonged to him and not to a mortal. Mara’s demon soldiers cried out together, “I am his witness!” Mara challenged Siddhartha—These soldiers speak for me. Who will speak for you?

Then Siddhartha reached out his right hand to touch the earth, and the earth itself spoke: “I bear you witness!” Mara disappeared. To this day, the Buddha often is portrayed in this “earth witness” posture, with his left hand, palm upright, in his lap, and his right hand touching the earth.

And as the morning star rose in the sky, Siddhartha Gautama realized enlightenment and became a Buddha.

Ramdas Athawale – Virat Kohli and Yuvraj Singh Match against Pakistan

Pakistan scored 338 runs after put in to bat first by Virat Kohli. Athawale alleged that Team India fixed the ICC Champions Trophy final against Pakistan. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale made a rather outrageous comment on Saturday.

Athawale questioned on Saturday. “In the match against Pakistan, someone like Virat Kohli who scores a century so often and other accomplished players like Yuvraj Singh who have scored so many runs in the past, looked like they were playing to lose,”

“Was there any match fixing involved? There should be an inquiry into this. Anil Kumble was the coach there. Kohli, who has scored so many runs in the past, what happened to him that day? That’s the reason why I have a doubt that was it a case of match-fixing? The players betrayed us. They kneeled in front of a rival like Pakistan. The same Pakistan that has kneeled in front of us many times, to kneel in front of them in such a way is major act of disrespect to your nation,” rambled Athawale.

Mohammed Amir (6-2-16-3)  tormented the Indian batsmen with a devastating first spell and eventually the 2013 champions were bundled out for 158 in only 30.3 overs.
